Angus Reid

Angus Reid Global is headed by Dr. Angus Reid, Canada’s best-known and longest-practicing pollster. He’s spent more than four decades asking people what they think and feel about the top social, political and economic issues of the day.

From 1979 to 2001, he was founder and CEO of Angus Reid Group, which grew into the largest research firm in Canada, with revenues of $60 million. It was sold to Ipsos SA in 2000. In 2004, Angus became CEO of Vision Critical, a revolutionizing and fast growing online panel company.

Angus has written numerous columns on economic, social and political issues and well as the best-seller; “Shakedown: How the New Economy is Changing our Lives” (1996). He has a B.A. and an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Manitoba, and in 1974 he received a Ph.D. in Sociology from Carleton University in Ottawa.

He is the recipient of a Canada Council Doctoral Fellowship, the Entrepreneur of the Year award, and was inducted into the Marketing Hall of Legends (2010).

Shachi Kurl

Senior Vice President, Angus Reid Global
Shachi Kurl works on research, communications and operations at ARG. She brings more than a decade of research, journalism and political experience to her role, having previously worked as legislative reporter for CTV Vancouver Island, producer at Global National National and contributing columnist for the Vancouver Sun.

She is the recipient of the prestigious Jack Webster award for Best TV Reporting. She has also worked as an advocate for the small business community with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

She holds a degree in Journalism and Political Science from Carleton University. She serves on the boards of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation and the CKNW Orphans' Fund.

Mag Burns

Special Consultant
As a special consultant to the team, Mag Burns brings over 30 years of research experience to the table. She first joined Angus Reid in the early 1980’s, fresh from completing undergraduate studies at the U of T. Mag spent the next 20 years managing national polling programs and syndicated public policy studies for the Angus Reid Group. After 2000, Mag’s focus migrated to Ipsos-Reid’s international operations, directing a team specialized in offshore data collection. She retired from Ipsos Operations in 2010 as Senior Vice President of Global Research Services. Mag now re-joins the Angus Reid team lending expertise as needed to regular and ad hoc polling endeavours.

Allison Bystrom

Research Associate
Allison Bystrom is a Research Associate at ARI. She works on creating, analyzing and reporting on polls about issues that matter to Canadians. Allison studied market research in university but was always more interested in public policy and politics and has now has the ideal job that combines these fields. In her past life she specialized in getting jobs that allowed her to travel, interning in Washington DC and Ghana and working on the Olympics in Vancouver, London and Sochi. Allison has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary.


The Angus Reid Global has a full-time opening for a Web Content Editor.

The Web Editor is experienced in this role, has strong editorial judgment, excellent writing skills, and a proven and well developed visual approach. You must be able to write quickly and accurately to constant deadlines.

The successful applicant is an expert at organizing, producing and improving web content related to Canadian and international public opinion polling content. You will update and enhance files, (including audio and visual content), write flawless and gripping copy, and select and edit images and video.

The right fit for ARG will be an SEO specialist who is determined to create and display content on multiple platforms in a way that maximizes audience online, via social media channels, through our blogs, and on mobile devices.

You’ll know how to work with Flash, Photoshop, InDesign, HTML, CSS, PHP, Wordpress, social media platforms and other web-related multimedia software tools. Graphic design skills are an asset.

Your job will include maximizing ARG's presence online, driving page views and engagement with new and returning audiences.

The successful applicant is someone who is committed to building the Institute's reputation and momentum online. He or she is solid team player who takes initiative and is also an excellent trainer to colleagues.

You have at least an undergraduate degree and five years related professional experience.

This position will be based in Vancouver, BC.
